Insert menu

Let’s learn the use of various options available in the insert menu of ms-word step by step.

Cover page: – This is used to insert the cover page in the document. You can also fill up the date, author name and other information.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on “cover page”.

• Choose various styles

You can also remove the cover page of the document if wish to do so.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on “cover page” option.

• Click on remove current cover page.

 

Blank page: – It adds a new empty page to the document.

• Go to insert menu.

• Place the cursor from where you want to add a new page in the document.

• Click on “blank page” option.

 

Break page: – break page option break the current page and start the next page from the desired place or current position.

• Go to insert menu.

• Place the cursor in the document from where you want to break the current page and start the new page.

• Click on “break page” option

Table: – This is used to draw a table in the document.

• Go to insert menu.

• Place the cursor from where you want to draw a table in the document.

• Click on table option.

• Click on insert table.

• Fix the number of rows and column.

• Click on ok button.

Picture: – This option in the insert menu is used to insert the picture in the document stored on  the drives of the computer system.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on “picture”.

• After clicking on “picture” a new window open.

• Select the picture from drives which you want to insert in to the document.(you can also search the image by typing the name in “file name ” box).

• After that click on insert button.

Clip art: – clip art allow you to insert the pre-installed picture in the document.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on clip art.

• New windows open to the right side of the document.

• Types the name in the search box and click go or simply click go without typing anything in the search box to get the available picture.

• Click on the picture which you want to insert in the document.

 

Shapes: – It is used to insert the different types of readymade shapes in the document.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on shapes.

• Choose the shape which you want to insert in the document.

• Drag the mouse to draw the shape.

Hyperlinks: – Creating hyperlink means attaching any item without inserting in the document.  Hyperlinks are used to create a link to the file, folder, image, audio, video, e-mail and any program.

• Go to insert menu.

• Place the cursor where you want to create a hyperlink.

• Click on “Hyperlink”.

• After clicking on hyperlink new windows open.

• Type the text in “Text to display” box. This text will be display in the document and clicking this text the attached item will open. When hyperlink will be created this text become blue in color with underlined.

• Select the file, folder, image, audio, video and program which you want to link.

• Click ok.

• By Pressing ctrl key click on the text to open it.

Header: – Header is used to write some text or heading to the top of the each page in the document. This text will appears on each page after printing.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on “Header” option.

• Choose the different format available from the dropdown menu.

• Type the text in the space provided.

• To remove the header from the document click on “remove header” present in the header dropdown menu.

 

Footer: – footer is used to write some text to the bottom of the each page in the document. This will appear on each page after printing.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on “Footer” option.

• Choose the different format available from the dropdown menu.

• Type the text in the space provided.

• To remove the footer from the document click on “remove footer” present in the footer dropdown menu.

 

Page number: – it inserts the page number in the document.

◈ Go to insert menu.

◈ Click on page number.

◈ Select the position on the page.

 

Text box: – text box is used to insert a preformatted text box in the document.

◈ Go to insert menu.

◈ Click on text box option.

◈ Chose the available format or click on the draw text box.

◈ Drag the mouse on the page to draw the box.

◈ Type the text which you want in the box.

Word Art: – This is used to insert a decorative and colorful text in the document.

◈ Go to insert menu.

◈ Click on word art option.

◈ Select the design from the menu.

◈ Type the text.

◈ Click on ok.

 Drop cap: – Drop cap option is used to make the first letter of every line very big.

◈ Go to insert menu.

◈ Select the first letter of any line or simply place the cursor in end of that line of which you want to drop.

◈ Now, click on drop cap option.

Date & Time: – Date and time option is used to insert the current date of your computer system in document.

• Go to insert menu.

• Place the cursor where you want to insert date and time.

• Click on date and time option.

• Choose language and calendar type.

• Choose any format of date and time from the available formats.

• Click on ok.

Object: – This option in the insert menu allows you to insert the document of other program in the ms-word document like-Photoshop image, bitmap image, slide, excel chart and excel worksheet and WordPad document.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on object option.

• Click on object.

• Choose the type of the document you want to insert from the “object type” menu.

• Click on ok button.

• Clicking ok button will open a new program which you have selected from the object type menu.

• Create a new document.

• After creating, close the document to insert in ms-word document.

Symbol: – Symbol option allows you to insert those symbols which are not available on your keyboard.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on symbol option.

• Click on more symbols.

• Choose font.

• Select the symbol.

• Click on insert button.

Equation: – This option helps us to insert a mathematical equation and also allow us to create our own equation.

• Go to insert menu.

• Click on “equation” option.

• A new equation tool will open.

• Use the various symbols and structure from equation tool to write your equation.
